Bob Benenson’s Jigsaw Politics: Something Worth Celebrating

Bob Benenson is not only a distinguished student radio alum, he's also written for Congressional Quarterly for almost 30 years. He re-visited some of our most familiar DC landmarks on the eve of the inauguration. By Bob Benenson, CQ Staff I’ve had the privilege over the nearly three decades I’ve been working at Congressional Quarterly to be an observer of history being made. Maybe I’ve even had a bit role to pla… Continue

Coach Dantonio is on track. Good feedback from Spartan4Ever at the Red Cedar Message Board

MSU is far from a finished product, but it is apparent that Dantonio has a plan to eventually move MSU from an over-achieving team to a yea… Continue

Reinvent Yourself

Recently, a radio buddy was complaining that too many of his friends in the biz were getting fired. These are disk jockeys who have been doing the same thing the same way for two decades without much change in their act. According to this NYT article, this phenomenon is starting to happen in the rarefied world of television anchorship, to… Continue

Spartans Lead the Big Ten.. A moment to savor

JAMIE SAMUELSEN'S BLOG-Freep.com - I really like about MSU is its approach. Dantonio preaches toughness and intelligence. But it’s not as if he has only one philosophy and will ram it down his teams' throats, regardless of the personnel (memo to Ann Arbor).... The… Continue

MSU / UM Game Day Notes

From the Spartan Fans Facebook group: If you’re not fired up for this weekend’s game, by the end of this note you should be. Don’t be fooled by Michigan’s 2-5 (1-2) record. The Wolverines, who lost to Toledo, will play their best on Saturday. Don’t expect any blowout on the Spartan’s side, because you will see a different Wolverine team. The Wolverines can say what they want, but they do change their ways for this game every year, and this year there will be no exception. TICKETS: There are n… Continue

Bob Seger sings about CKLW's music director

Back in the 60s and 70s, if you wanted top get your music on the 50,000 watt flame thrower that was CKLW, you had to get past Rosalie Trombley. If she liked your stuff, it was a pretty good bet that you'd find your way into the Billboard Hot 100. Her perceived power was so great that Bob Seger even wrote her an ode. Here it is along with some stills of CK sights. How many of the jocks do you recognize? Continue

Homecoming Game Day Notes

From the Spartan Fans Facebook Group Spartan Fans, A few quick notes: Don’t over look the Hawkeyes on Saturday. Iowa holds a (3-2) record, but in those two losses looked to be a tough, hardnosed team only losing both games by a combined total of six points. Both losses came to teams with winning records; Pittsburgh (4-1) and Northwestern (5-0). As always, our team will need our support. So come early and be loud. I have been receiving a countless number of messages asking that I encourage t… Continue

Javon Ringer T-Shirts could jeopardize Heisman candidacy

From Kim Kittleman: Dear Alumni Club Leaders, Michigan State University was contacted this morning by the Heisman award organization regarding a t-shirt sale to promote Javon Ringer as a Heisman Trophy candidate. One of our regional clubs had been asked to forward an email solicitation from the individual promoting the sale. The sale of this t-shirt immediately jeopardizes Javon Ringers status as an amateur athlete. The Heisman award organization made it known that Javon’s candidacy for the Tr… Continue
