Glad you found me here at Spartanology. Back in 1973 when I was considering colleges, MSU quickly became the first choice. In the day, radio was my passion and the idea of an institution that had not just one but five
student stations was too good to pass up. And after I visited the campus with it's beautiful foliage, state of the art classrooms and excellent dorm food, I was totally hooked.
I worked in the radio biz throughout my time at MSU and continued to do so in the real world until 1981. One of my more interesting classes, taught by Tom Baldwin and Tom Muth, focused on cable TV and when a fellow alum told me about Continental Cablevision's activities in Detroit, I jumped ship. For the next 17 years, I managed cable systems across the Midwest and in Florida, "retiring" in 1998 to pursue a bucket list filled with entrepreneurial stuff. Over the next five years I built an overseas radio network, a record company, an aviation leasing operation and two Internet firms. Those were heady days, but eventually the siren's song of cable called me back and that's been my day job ever since.
In many ways, I live two lives, the daytime life as a cable executive and the after hours life as a techno-geek. I still consult on Internet application development, web design, blogging, on-line customer care and social networking, keep my hand in broadcasting with an occasional contract project and through my devotion to
keener13.com, website that Steve Schram and I created back in 2002 to celebrate WKNR, our favorite Detroit 60s rock radio station. I've been a licensed amateur radio guy since 1981 and
conduct a website devoted to the hobby here in New Mexico. I also enjoy writing and published my first book, "
Touch and Go" in the fall of 2008.
I'm still connected to MSU, serving as president of the New Mexico Spartans alumni club and as vice president of the National Alumni Board. Colleen and I established an endowment at the College of Communication Arts and Sciences in 2000 and we're on campus several times a year.
First and foremost, I'm a family guy and am most proud of my wonderful wife, The Queen, and our three terrific kids.

You'll find me on the Internet over at
